Pitzer Woods at Gettysburg is on the southern end of Seminary Ridge. (West Confederate Avenue Part 4 tour map) At the time of the battle these woods were owned by Samuel Pitzer. His house still stands in the Eisenhower National Historic Site.
The 1st United States Sharpshooters scouted the woods towards midday on July 2nd. They engaged Alabama troops that were gathering for Longstreet’s attack. Later in the afternoon Confederate General Barksdale’s Mississippi Brigade waited in reserve here before its attack toward the Sherfy House.

Pitzer Woods is on the southern end of Seminary Ridge just north of the intersection of West Confederate Avenue and Millerstown Road.
