Tour the Gettysburg battlefield > North • Central • South • E. Cavalry Field
On the final day of the Battle of Gettysburg this area, two miles east of town, saw a clash of cavalry. J.E.B. Stuart’s Confederate troopers tried to outflank and get in the rear of the Union army while Lee launched Pickett’s Charge, but Union cavalry under David Gregg and George Custer threw them back in violent hand-to-hand fighting.
