Confederate Headquarters Markers
The marker is a 12-pounder Napoleon forged at the Confederate Columbus Arsenal, Columbus, Georgia in 1863. It was placed in 1920 by the Gettysburg National Military Park Commission.

The Confederate 2nd Corps Headquarters Marker is on the east edge of Gettysburg on the northeast corner of Hanover Street and 6th Street. (39°49’52.1″N 77°13’10.7″W)
About Richard Ewell
Lieutenant General Richard S. Ewell (West Point Class of 1840) commanded the Second Corps at the Battle of Gettysburg. He was a career Army officer who had been born in the District of Columbia and raised in Virginia. Ewell took over the Second Corps after the death of “Stonewall” Jackson in May of 1863. Before that Ewell had spent nine months recovering from being badly wounded and having his leg amputated at the Second Battle of Manassas.
